This is a detail taken from a portrait of Christ's arrest, located within the Book of Kells, an Irish illuminated manuscript from the Middle Ages. Besides being absolutely incredible to look at, it is easily my greatest artistic inspiration. Ink and Prismacolor on paper.

The Book of Kells is without a doubt a treasure trove of inspiration - take any page, it'll sport between dozens and hundreds of tiny decorations. Amazing.

I like your version of it - very even, beautiful choice of colors, and the spacing is harmonical. It reminds me a bit of MC Escher - another artist who took "attention to detail" and ran with it.
